UNIVERSITI Teknologi Mara (UiTM) will take action against one of its contract lecturer who insulted a B40 student, following a viral video of the incident.

UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Roziah Mohd Janor said the instiution is investigating the issue.

“It is understood that the incident happened last semester (between September 2021 and January 2022), but was only uploaded yesterday.

“We have traced the student and provided him with the necessary equipment (a laptop).”

The professor in question works at the Architecture, Planning and Surveying Faculty at the UiTM campus in Seri Iskandar, Perak, and is an experienced lecturer, she added.

“All UiTM lecturers want the best for their students; maybe the lecturer got carried away,” she said, adding that she should be considerate of her students and staff.

Roziah urged students who face any problem to contact their faculties for appropriate assistance.

UiTM offers various funds for underprivileged students, she added.

In the viral video, the lecturer is seen berating her student for not having a laptop during an online class. She is heard telling the student to ask his sister to sell her gold bracelet if she has any to buy a laptop for him. – Bernama, March 30, 2022.
