PUTRAJAYA has agreed to waive toll charges at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (Johor Baru end of the Malaysia-Singapore Causeway) and Tg Kupang (Second Link bridge) in conjunction with the reopening of the Malaysia-Singapore border tomorrow, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

In a statement, Ismail said the exemption applies to all types of vehicles for seven days, starting from tomorrow till April 7.

“Beginning April 1, 2022, Malaysia and Singapore will allow all fully vaccinated travellers to cross the land border without having to undergo quarantine or perform Covid-19 testing, including pre-departure and on-arrival testing.

“The government has agreed to exempt toll fees at all toll plazas at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex at both national border entrances, namely Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Tanjung Kupang from April 1 to 7.”

“This is in line with efforts to facilitate cross-border travel with Singapore,” said Ismail this afternoon.

Touch ’n Go and SmartTag users, Ismail said, will also benefit from the exemption.

He explained that the decision was to ensure smooth traffic at the two toll plazas with the opening of the land border.

“The toll exemption involves travellers entering or leaving Malaysia through the two toll plazas. This decision was made in consideration of the closure of the Malaysia-Singapore border over the past two years.”

“This exemption is in addition to the Road Charge (CJ) exemption imposed on Singapore -registered private vehicles when entering Malaysia by land at both locations.”

“PLUS estimates that at least 42,000 vehicles will enter Malaysia via the Causeway and Second Link daily.

“The toll clearance decision will benefit more than 300,000 vehicle owners making Malaysia-Singapore cross-border trips,” he added.

In a joint statement issued last week, Ismail and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the land border between Malaysia and Singapore will reopen to all vaccinated travellers from April 1.

Travellers will also not be required to quarantine or undergo Covid-19 testing pre-departure and on arrival, they said.

Lee added it was an important event in transitioning to live with Covid-19.

“Today’s announcement is an important milestone in our transition to life with Covid-19.

“It reflects the strong cooperation enjoyed by both countries throughout this pandemic and will help both sides emerge stronger from the crisis,” Lee said.

The quarantine-free travel is applicable to all travellers and vehicles, they added. – March 30, 2022.
