DAILY Covid-19 hospitalisation continued to dip for the sixth consecutive day with 847 people warded for the disease yesterday, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
The health director-general said of the 847 patients admitted yesterday, 375 or 44.3% of them were in the more serious categories of 3, 4 and 5, while the rest were in the asymptomatic and mildly asymptomatic categories of 1 and 2.
Breakdown by categories shows that the number of patients hospitalised in category 2 were the highest with 386 admissions, followed by category 4 (228), category 3 (125), category 1 (86) and category 5 (22).
Hospital admissions for Covid-19 have been showing a gradual decline since March 24, when 1,264 patients were warded.
The figures dropped to 1,092 (March 25), 979 (March 26), 914 (March 27), 850 (March 28) and 847 yesterday.
Selangor, the most populous state, which reported the bulk of the new infections yesterday, also reported the most number of hospital admissions, at 160.
It was the only state to have admissions in triple digits. Next was Johor with 99 admissions.
Other states and territories to report new admissions are Kedah (80), Perak (84), Kuala Lumpur (80), Penang (66), Kelantan (56), Sarawak (47), Terengganu (34), Pahang (33), Sabah (32), Negri Sembilan (29), Malacca (21), Putrajaya (16), Perlis (7) and Labuan (3).
Noor Hisham also said 818 people were discharged yesterday.
On intensive care unit (ICU) utilisation related to Covid-19, he said two states or territories have breached the 50% mark.
Selangor topped the list with 55% while Johor was second, at 52%.
On the bed take-up rate for Covid-19 cases, Noor Hisham said of the 12,242 beds available for non-critical cases, 4,987 (41%) were occupied.
Of the 882 beds in ICU, 288 (33%) were occupied while 874 (8%) of the 10,402 beds in low-risk quarantine centres were in use. β March 29, 2022.
