979 hospitalised with Covid

THE Health Ministry reported 979 Covid-19 hospital admissions yesterday, a dip from the previous day’s 1,092.

Among the total, 569 cases were in the mild categories of 1 and 2, while 410 were in categories 3, 4 and 5.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said categories 1 and 2 patients would be admitted if they were deemed high risk and in need of observation.

Categories 1 and 2 cases accounted for 58.2% of the total hospital admissions yesterday.

Patients in category 1 are asymptomatic, 2 have mild symptoms, 3 have pneumonia-like symptoms, 4 have serious symptoms requiri respiratory support, and 5 have severe symptoms requiring intensive care.

Selangor posted the most new Covid hospital patients yesterday with 208, followed by Perak (103).

The rest of the states and territories each reported fewer than 100 admissions.

Of the 882 Covid intensive care beds available, 34% were occupied. A total of 194 patients required respiratory support.

ICU bed capacity exceeded 50% in Kuala Lumpur (70%), Putrajaya (67%), Johor (59%), Penang (57%), and Selangor (53%).

Hospitals discharged 1,043 virus patients yesterday. – March 27, 2022.
