TWO siblings were detained in an investigation into the alleged abuse of an Indonesian maid after a police report was lodged in Taman Kota Permai 2, Bukit Mertajam, yesterday.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the man and woman, aged 36 and 39, were held after they came to the SPT district police headquarters to record their statements at 8pm yesterday.

“The 21-year-old victim from Medan, Indonesia, suffered bruises on the head and face, and wounds on her hand as well as left and right leg,” he said.

Nik Ros said police received a report on the matter from a man who is an assistant to an elected representative in Bukit Mertajam.

He said the man had been made aware of the incident from his acquaintance before going to the maid’s employer’s house to see the victim’s condition for himself.

Nik Ros said preliminary investigations found that the maid had been working at her employer’s home for the past two years, however, she was afraid to give further details.

“The victim was sent to Bukit Mertajam Hospital for treatment, while the two siblings have been remanded for investigation.

“Police are conducting further investigations, including who had abused the victim, and since when,” he said. – Bernama, February 11, 2018.
