ROSMAH Mansor’s lawyers have denied claims that their client received a US$23 million (RM96 million) pink diamond necklace created by a New York jeweller.

The Lorraine Schwartz-made diamond necklace was allegedly bought using funds of 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

Lawyers Geethan Ram Vincent, Rajivan Nambiar and Reza Rahim said no such jewellery was found in Rosmah’s possession despite raids by police in 2018.

“In any event, our client takes the position that the production of the invoice per se does not amount to any form of conclusive evidence implicating our client in the purchase of the pink diamond necklace,” they said in a statement.

“Our client states that the sensationalising of this issue is another scurrilous attempt to politically defame our client and her husband.”

The pink diamond necklace made headlines again, when jurors in the ongoing trial of ex-Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng were shown receipts of the jewellery’s purchase.

However, they were shown only the receipt, not the necklace itself.

Rosmah’s lawyers said their client has no knowledge of the receipt shown to the jurors in New York.

Bloomberg reported that Schwartz’s records showed that Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, contacted her in June 2013, asking her to create a pink diamond necklace with a heart-shaped gem at its centre for the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak.

While Rosmah asked for an 18-carat diamond, Schwartz said she had only a 22-carat pink diamond, and a US$23 million deal was struck for the larger stone, said the report.

Schwartz was said to have personally delivered the necklace to Rosmah, while the latter was staying aboard a yacht with Low. – March 25, 2022.
