THERE will no longer be quotes for air and land travel between Malaysia and Singapore, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said today.

He said the checkpoints at the border will also resume 24-hour operations beginning April 1.

“Fully vaccinated travellers can enter the country via land quarantine free,” Khairy said at a press conference in Parliament.

“There will be no pre-arrival or on-arrival testing for those travelling via the Causeway and Second Link. The checkpoints will also be open 24 hours.

“There will be no more quota for land travel and all categories of vehicles can enter.

“For flights, we leave it to the airlines to add flights from a commercial standpoint. There are no limitations.”

Travellers by air are, however, still required to undergo pre-departure testing, he said.

“Fully vaccinated people travelling by air must undergo a professional RTK-Antigen test two days before departure,” he said.

“They won’t have to undergo arrival testing or quarantine.”

Earlier today, in a joint statement, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his Singapore counterpart, Lee Hsien Loong, announced that quarantine-free travel will be allowed via the country’s land border from April 1.

On the preparedness of the immigration complex in Johor, Khairy said Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi visited the premises yesterday to ensure that the border can open smoothly on April 1.

“We have one week to ensure that everything will go smoothly. Even before the epidemic, the Johor land border was very busy. We expect many to return on the first day,” he said.

Khairy also announced that two land borders will be opened between Malaysia and Thailand on April 1.

“The land border between Malaysia and Thailand will reopen at Bukit Kayu Hitam-Sadoa and Wang Kelian-Wang Prachan,” he said.

“Only tourists will be allowed to travel. As for day and frequent travellers, that is still under discussion.”

Discussions are also under way to reopen the land border in Padang Besar, Pengkalan Hulu and Kelantan, he said.

As for Brunei and Indonesia, Khairy said the ministry is still waiting for a reply.

“We have been in contact with our high commission there, we are still waiting. We have informed them what our protocols are, if they want them to be changed, we will discuss.” – March 24, 2022.
