A TOTAL of 13,225 new teachers hired under a special one-off recruitment exercise have accepted their placements so far, said Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.

Of the total, 307 reported for duty on December 1 last year, 8,120 on March 1, and 4,828 will report for duty on April 4, he added.

“We have completed (the recruitment) of more than 13,000 teachers. The latest batch will begin (work) next month.

“We will continue to work with the Education Service Commission, so the remaining vacancies can be filled up as soon as possible.”

In July last year, Radzi announced that the ministry will make a special one-off intake of 18,702 teachers to address staff shortage in several states, including Selangor, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak. – Bernama, March 23, 2022.
