21,483 new Covid-19 cases, 73 deaths

MALAYSIA saw a spike in fresh Covid-19 infections with 21,483 cases recorded yesterday, compared to 17,828 the day before.

According to the CovidNow website this brings the total number of cases to 4,032,435.

Selangor posted the highest number of infections yesterday with 7,452 cases followed by Kuala Lumpur (3,433) and Sarawak (1,547).

The others were Johor (927), Kedah (1,219), Negri Sembilan (1,061), Kelantan (609), Pahang (959), Perak (1,170), Sabah (402), Terengganu (584), Malacca (536), Labuan (93), Perlis (131), Penang (1,295) and Putrajaya (65).

The country also saw a slight increase in Covid-19 fatalities to 73 compared to 63 the previous day, bringing the death toll to 34,535.

The country recorded 25 dead-on-arrival cases.

Perak reported the most number of fatalities with 19, followed by Johor and Selangor (11 each), Kedah (9), Penang (8), Kelantan, Malacca, Sabah and Terengganu (3 each) and Negri Sembilan, Perlis and Sarawak (1 each).

There were no deaths reported in Pahang and the federal territories.

As of midnight, there were 252,671 active cases, with 6,617 hospitalised. Of this, 339 were in the intensive care unit, with 209 requiring respiratory assistance.

There were also 32,561 recoveries recorded. – March 23, 2022.
