SINGAPORE will establish an embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, to strengthen partnership between the two countries, according to the republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement issued last night, the ministry said the embassy will serve as a focal point and support Singapore companies seeking to expand their collaboration with potential Israeli partners.

The ministry said Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan who is currently in Israel highlighted that both countries should deepen collaboration in emerging areas such as agri-food tech, health-tech, artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalisation, as the world emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier on Sunday, Singapore had expressed its intention to establish a representative office in Ramallah to facilitate closer coordination with the Palestine Authority to implement S$10 million Enhanced Technical Assistance Package for Palestinians.

The representative office will coordinate its technical assistance and support the work of Singapore’s Non-Resident Representative to the Authority.

The intention was conveyed by Balakrishnan while in Ramallah and was welcomed by his counterpart Dr Riyad Al-Malki. – Bernama, March 22, 2022.
