FORMER transport minister Anthony Loke has been appointed the new DAP secretary-general for the 2022-2025 term following the party election in Shah Alam today.

Meanwhile, outgoing secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (2004-2022) will be the new chairman replacing Tan Kok Wai.

Apart from Lim, Gobind Singh Deo was chosen as the new deputy chairman while Nga Kor Ming, Chow Kon Yeow, Chong Chieng Jen, M. Kulasegaran and Teresa Kok will be the five new vice chairmen.

Nga, who was the former Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker, was also appointed the party whip for DAP in Parliament.

At the press announcement, Loke said he has promised the central executive committee (CEC) that he will build a more inclusive team where all leaders will have a role to play.

“We will announce more posts and committees in the coming weeks. I hope that we can galvanise everyone’s strength so that we can build a stronger and more cohesive team,” said Loke.

Meanwhile, assisting Loke, as the deputy secretaries-general are Liew Chin Tong, V. Sivakumar and Tengku Zulpuri Shah, the latter two of whom were among five other persons co-opted into the 30-man CEC.

The others who were co-opted were Syahredzan Johan, Khoo Poay Tiong and V. Ganabatirau.

The national treasurer’s post will be held by Fong Kui Lun while the assistant treasurer is Ng Sze Han.

The national organising secretary’s post will be taken by Steven Sim while the assistant is Ng Suee Lim and Khoo.

The publicity secretary’s post will be held by Teo Nie Chieng, and she will be assisted by Hannah Yeoh and Ganabatirau.

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, who announced his retirement from elections today, was appointed party mentor while Tan Kok Wai was appointed advisor.

The election is for a three-year term from 2022-2025 and was held at IDCC in Shah Alam.

A total of 4,149 delegates were estimated to have attended the one-day national congress and voted for CEC members, which will lead the party into the 15th general election. Unlike other parties, the elected CEC members will decide the term’s office bearers among themselves.

At the last national congress, the party’s constitution was amended to set aside a 30% quota for women in the CEC, which means there will be at least nine women in the new committee. – March 20, 2022.
