Fireman Adib’s family given RM1.5 million ex-gratia payment

THE government has paid a RM1.5 million ex-gratia compensation to the family of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said at the Umno General Assembly today.

Adib died in December 2018 after sustaining injuries earlier during a riot at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

Ismail, who is an Umno vice-president, said the compensation was made on November 29 last year, although the investigation into Adib’s death is ongoing.

“The special committee has tabled an interim report on March 15, 2022,” he said.

“Although the investigation is ongoing, the government has made the ex-gratia compensation amounting to RM1.5 million on November 29 last year.

“This is proof that Umno is determined in defending the fate of the people.”

Adib, who was an emergency medical rescue services member of the Subang Jaya fire and rescue station, suffered serious injuries during the riot outside the temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya on November 27, 2018.

He died on December 17, 2018, after 21 days at the National Heart Institute.

On September 27, 2019, the coroner’s court ruled that Adib’s death was due to a criminal act perpetrated by more than two unidentified individuals. – March 19, 2022.
