SULTAN of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar wants all executive councillors to be subject to thorough background checks, and they must also declare their assets, he said on Facebook after meeting with new Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi yesterday.
“They need to go through a thorough background check with the police and the Malaysian Anti -Corruption Commission (MACC).
“If someone is not appointed as a member of the state executive council, do not be discouraged. Everyone can provide the best service,” Sultan Ibrahim posted on Facebook today.
On March 15, Machap assemblyman Onn Hafiz was sworn in as the 19th menteri besar after receiving the consent of Sultan Ibrahim, in a ceremony at Istana Bukit Serene.
This follows Barisan Nasional’s (BN) landslide victory in the Johor polls over the weekend, which saw the coalition sweep 40 of the 56 seats.
BN defeated Pakatan Harapan, which won 11 seats, of which PKR – which used its own logo – claimed only one.
Meanwhile, Sultan Ibrahim also said that the academic qualifications of each candidate should be checked for its validity.
“The election is over. Now is the time for all elected representatives to join forces and work together to make Johor prosperous.
“I hold on to former menteri besar Hasni Mohammad’s words: there is no ideology of politicians and parties that is bigger, more important than Johor state,” he said.
Sultan Ibrahim said he always prioritises the well-being of the people and likewise the elected representatives must carry out their responsibilities by serving the people.
“Any exco who is unable to perform his or her duties will be replaced by the menteri besar.
“Similarly, my advice to the menteri besar is to focus on his duties and responsibilities to the state and the people.”
Sultan Ibrahim also advised Onn Hafiz to work closely with Hasni in getting views and advice (on state issues). – March 17, 2022.
