95 new Covid deaths, 26,534 fresh cases

MALAYSIA logged 26,534 Covid infections yesterday, a fourth consecutive day it has registered fewer than 30,000 cases.

Yesterday’s figure is a slight increase from the 22,030 recorded the day before.

According to the CovidNow website, the latest figure brings the cumulative number of infections since the onset of the pandemic to 3.87 million.

The number of deaths reported yesterday was 95, with 23 classified as dead on arrival (DOA).

The ministry has explained that all the deaths reported for a day took place in a single day but are reported by medical facilities to the ministry within a 72-hour turnaround time. 

The death toll stands at 33,994.

On the breakdown of new infections yesterday, Selangor again reported the highest number of cases at 7,217, followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,892) and Kedah (2,391).

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Penang (2,324), Johor (2,241), Sarawak (1,867), Negri Sembilan (1,547), Perak (1,296), Kelantan (1,212), Pahang (1,055), Terengganu (826), Malacca (635), Sabah (591), Perlis (186), Putrajaya (183) and Labuan (71).

Selangor also logged the highest number of deaths, at 21, of which five were DOA.

Johor recorded 16 deaths, Perak (14); Kedah (10); Penang (8); Sabah (5); Malacca, Pahang, Perlis (4 each); Negri Sembilan and Sarawak (3 each); Kelantan (2) and Terengganu (1).

No Covid-linked deaths was reported in Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

As of midnight, there were 304,147 active cases. Of this number, 376 were in intensive care units, with 222 requiring respiratory support. 

There were also 31,234 recoveries. – March 16, 2022.
