9 civil servants arrested over alleged sale of seized drugs


NINE public officers of an enforcement agency are among 10 people arrested over alleged drug trafficking, involving seized syabu worth RM193,590.

Bukit Aman Narcotic Criminal Investigation director Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the civil servants were arrested in Putrajaya, while the other suspect, a fisherman, was arrested in Johor. All were detained between March 6 and 8.

The 10 people, all aged between 33 and 49, are believed to have sold 50kg of syabu seized in an operation in the Straits of Malacca.

“The public officers allegedly sold the drugs to a syndicate in Banting, Selangor, to be sold in Dumai, Indonesia,” said Ayob Khan.

He said the syndicate, which has networks in Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Johor, is believed to be working with other syndicates in the country.

Ayob Khan said of the nine civil servants, four tested positive for methamphetamine. All 10 suspects have no past record.

Police also seized 5,377g of drugs and four cars in the operation, and froze a bank account containing RM5,325.78.

All 10 suspects have been remanded for 14 days until March 20. – Bernama, March 15, 2022.
