DAILY Covid-19 cases dropped for the second day in a row as Malaysia logged 22,535 new infections yesterday, the Health Ministry said.
The number of cases yesterday was also the lowest since February 15, where 22,133 cases were reported.
The latest figure yesterday brought the cumulative number of infections since the onset of the pandemic to 3,823,571.
The ministry also reported 87 coronavirus-linked deaths yesterday, a rise from 77 the day before.
Of the deaths, 25 cases were declared dead on arrival.
The ministry had earlier said that not all daily deaths took place in a single day but were reported by medical facilities to the ministry within a 72-hour turnaround time.
This meant the 87 deaths occurred within the last three days.
The death toll is now at 33,807, of which 7,043 are DOA cases.
On the breakdown of cases yesterday, Selangor reported the most number of infections at 5,345 followed by Kedah (2,332) and Johor (1,973).
The Klang Valley region comprising Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (1,594) and Putrajaya (121) logged a combined 7,060 cases or 31% of the total cases recorded yesterday.
Other states and territories reporting new cases were Negri Sembilan (1,950), Penang (1,548), Sarawak (1,354), Pahang (1,352), Perak (1,292), Terengganu (1,039), Kelantan (1,005), Sabah (845), Malacca (563), Labuan (133) and Perlis (89).
Meanwhile, Johor, which concluded its state elections on Saturday, logged the most number of deaths at 22, of which three are DOA cases.
Selangor recorded 18 deaths, Perak (10), Kuala Lumpur and Penang (6 each), Pahang (5), Kedah and Kelantan (4 each), Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Terengganu (3 each), Sarawak (2) and Sabah (1).
No Covid-19 linked deaths were reported in Perlis, Labuan and Putrajaya.
Apart from the three DOA cases in Johor, Selangor had eight, Perak (4), Kelantan (3), Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur (2 each), Kedah, Malacca and Sarawak (1 each).
The fatality rate stood at 0.3% and the cumulative fatality rate, at 0.9%. β March 14, 2022.
