THE Beijing Winter Paralympics were officially declared closed today, after a controversy-hit Games banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from competing over the invasion of Ukraine.

Andrew Parsons, president of the International Paralympic Committee, declared the event finished and praised the athletes as “champions of peace” at a closing ceremony in the Chinese capital’s “Bird’s Nest” stadium. – AFP, March 13, 2022.
