AFTER four straight days of posting more than 30,000 daily Covid-19 cases, Malaysia yesterday recorded 26,250 fresh infections.

The number of cases yesterday was the lowest in the past 11 days, during which Malaysia reported an all-time single-day high of 33,406 cases on March 5.

The latest figure brings the total number of infections in the country since the onset of the epidemic to 3,801,036 cases.

There was also a slight increase in deaths yesterday with 77 fatalities compared 76 the day before.

Twenty-three were classified as dead on arrival (DOA).

The Health Ministry had earlier said that not all daily deaths took place in a single day but were reported by medical facilities to the ministry within a 72-hour turnaround time.

This meant the 77 deaths occurred within the last three days.

This bring the death toll to 33,720, of which 7,018 are DOA cases.

On the breakdown of the new cases, the Klang Valley region posted almost 35% of the total number of cases.

Selangor logged 6,472 cases, Kuala Lumpur (2,399) and Putrajaya (191).

Of the 77 deaths, Penang logged the most with 12, followed by Kelantan and Selangor with 11 each.

Kedah posted nine deaths, Johor (8), Perak (7), Perlis and Terengganu (4 each), Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan (3 each), Sabah (2), Malacca, Pahang and Sarawak (1 each).

No coronavirus-linked deaths in Labuan and Putrajaya.
