2,135 admitted to hospital for Covid

HOSPITAL admissions in the country continued to rise with 2,135 new Covid-19 patients reported yesterday, up from 2,048 the day before, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

He said 1,302 of the cases were in categories 1 and 2 while the rest were in categories 3, 4 and 5.

The five basic categories are asymptomatic (category 1), mild symptoms (category 2), pneumonia-like symptoms (category 3), serious symptoms requiring respiratory support (category 4) and severe symptoms requiring acute medical care (category 5).

Selangor once again recorded the highest number of new admissions, at 311, followed by Perak (249) and Johor (225).

Other states and territories that reported new admissions were Kelantan (160), Pahang (116), Kedah (145), Kuala Lumpur (191), Negri Sembilan (119), Sabah (122), Sarawak (129), Penang (167), Terengganu (73), Malacca (68), Perlis (30), Putrajaya (22) and Labuan (8).

Noor Hisham said of the 32,800 daily cases reported, 12,726 are in category 1, 19,891 in category 2, 70 in category 3, 78 in category 4 and 35 in category 5.

Of the 183 new Covid-19 cases in categories 3, 4 and 5, 35 were not vaccinated or not fully vaccinated.

Noor Hisham said 80 cases have received two vaccine doses but have not got a booster shot.

“Sixty-eight cases received a booster dose while 103 were aged 60 years and above,” he said.

“Seventy-three patients had comorbidities and two cases were expectant mothers.”– March 12, 2022.
