THE Election Commission (EC) today reminded all voters who will cast their ballots in the Johor polls tomorrow to comply with standard operating procedures (SOP).
EC secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said this includes wearing a face mask, checking body temperature, practising physical distancing and using hand sanitisers.
“Election staff will be monitoring voter movement to ensure all SOP are complied with while voters are in polling centres.”
He said hand sanitisers will be provided at all polling centres as voters will be required to sanitise their hands at four stations – the main entrance, polling channel entrance, polling station and before leaving the centre.
Voters with Covid-19 symptoms will be allowed to cast their ballots at a special tent monitored by health officials, while patients under investigation and persons under surveillance must obtain prior permission from their district health offices to go to the polling centres.
“The permission is subject to the risk assessment by the district health office. The affected voters must adhere to all guidelines set by the Health Ministry,” said Ikmalrudin.
All candidates and election staff entering polling centres are reminded to not wear any cap, face mask, shirt or bring any campaign material bearing the name, logo, symbol, slogan or tagline of a contesting candidate or party, he added.
“Anyone who violates this regulation can be banned from entering polling centres and have legal action taken against them.”
He said all types of election campaigns must end by midnight tonight, including on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Setting up or operating an election booth on polling day is prohibited and those who commit the offence can face legal action, he added.
A total of 2.53 million normal voters are expected to cast their ballots at 1,021 polling centres statewide tomorrow. – Bernama, March 11, 2022.
