NO logging or land clearing activity was carried out that could have led to the landslide at Taman Bukit Permai 2, Ampang, yesterday, said Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
He said instead, soil movement occurred on the hill following continuous rain.
“Prior to this, we have received reports involving Taman Permai, which is 4km from the landslide site, but nothing about this area,” he told reporters at the scene today.
This is an open-zone residential area and there has been no complaint of suspicious activity here, he added.
Amirudin said residents from 48 houses have been ordered to evacuate for further inspection and monitoring by relevant authorities to ensure the area is safe.
It may take up to five days before residents are allowed to return home, he added.
“The Public Works Department will conduct a detailed inspection within two to three days to ascertain whether the area is safe.
“Right now, canvas installation will be done to prevent further soil movement, especially when it rains.”
He said each family of victims who died in the landslide will receive a RM10,000 cash aid from the state government, adding that aid for other affected families is being considered.
“Usually, those who are affected will receive a RM500 cash aid, but I am still mulling the possibility of increasing the amount or other aid.”
The landslide killed four people and injured one person. It also damaged 15 houses and 10 vehicles. – Bernama, March 11, 2022.
