NIGHTCLUBS will remain shut as Malaysia transitions to the endemic phase on April 1, Khairy Jamaluddin said today.

The health minister said this will be the only activity that remains on the National Security Council’s negative list.

“On April 1, only one business will be on the negative list, that is, nightclubs, because of its nature,” Khairy said at a press conference.

“We looked into this on the balance of risk assessment. It is a high-risk location.”

Nightclubs have been closed since the start of the epidemic in March 2020.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Malaysia will begin the transition to endemicity on April 1.

At the same time, Malaysia will begin welcoming international visitors.

Eateries will also be allowed to open 24 hours come April 1. – March 9, 2022.
