MOH offers Sinovac for kid walk-ins

THE Health Ministry has confirmed that walk-ins for the Sinovac vaccine will be available for kids aged five to 11 at four vaccination centers (PPV) from March 7.

In a statement, Deputy Health Minister I Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali said the four PPV are the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, Ideal Convention Centre (Shah Alam), Soka Gakkai (Klang) and Axiata Arena (Bukit Jalil).

He said approval has been given to the use of CoronaVac Suspension for Injection Covid-19 Vaccine (Vero Cell), Inactivated, produced by Sinovac Life Sciences Co Ltd (China), and Pharmaniaga Lifescience Sdn Bhd (Malaysia), for children five to 11 years old.

“This makes CoronaVac the second vaccine approved for use for children aged five to 11 years,” he said.

According to him, parents will be given a choice between the CoronaVac and Corminaty vaccines for their children.

“Parents can check the list of names and operating hours of the vaccination centre (PPV) that offers CoronaVac on a walk-in basis on the Health Ministry’s website and PHCorp, which was announced earlier.”

For other walk-in locations, parents are advised to refer to the ministry’s website.

He also said to obtain complete vaccination status, two doses of CoronaVac in an interval of four weeks should be given to children aged five to 11 years.

Based on the CovidNow website, as of yesterday, a total of 123,053 children aged 12 and under have been infected with Covid-19.

Earlier, Malaysia recorded a daily high of Covid-19 infections for the third day running with the Health Ministry reporting 33,406 new cases yesterday.

On Thursday, Malaysia broke the record with 32,467 daily cases, only to break it again on Friday with 33,209 infections.

This is the third consecutive day the country has hit more than 30,000 daily cases, taking the cumulative number of infections in the country to 3.59 million.

The ministry also reported 67 Covid-19 deaths, of which 23 were declared dead on arrival. – March 6, 2022.
