MALAYSIA recorded a daily high of Covid-19 infections for the third straight day running with the health ministry reporting 33,406 new cases yesterday.
On Thursday, Malaysia broke the record with 32,467 daily cases, only to break it again on Friday with 33,209 infections.
This will be the third consecutive day that the country has hit more than 30,000 daily cases, taking the cumulative number of infections in the country to 3.59 million.
The ministry reported 67 Covid-19 deaths, of which 23 were declared dead on arrival (DOA).
Earlier, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin clarified that not all daily deaths took place in a single day but were reported by medical facilities to the ministry within a 72-hour turnaround time.
This meant the 67 deaths occurred within the last three days.
The latest number of fatalities brought the coronavirus death toll to 33,173, while the total number of DOA stands at 6,853.
Of the record number of infections logged, Selangor was the biggest contributor with almost 30% of total cases.
The most-populous state registered 9,651, followed by Kuala Lumpur (3,603) and Kedah (2,946).

Other states and territories reporting new coronavirus cases were Johor (2,713), Penang (2,621), Sabah (1,778), Pahang (1,619), Negri Sembilan (1,565), Kelantan (1,550), Perak (1,491), Sarawak (1,455), Malacca (931), Terengganu (856), Labuan (267), Perlis (228) and Putrajaya (132).
Of deaths, Selangor logged the most with 14, followed by Kedah (12) and election-bound Johor (10)
Perak registered eight, Sabah (7), Malacca and Perlis (4 each), Kelantan and Pahang (3 each), Negri Sembilan and Penang (1 each).
The 23 DOA cases were reported in Selangor and Sabah (5 each), Kedah (4), Kelantan, Malacca, Perak (2 each), Johor, Negri Sembilan and Perlis (1 each).
The fatality rate stood at 0.2% and the cumulative fatality rate, at 0.9%. β March 6, 2022.
