Localise sustainable development goals in own constituencies, urges Saifuddin

FOREIGN Minister Saifuddin Abdullah urged MPs to join the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia to further localise and encourage the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) among their constituents.

According to him, 30 MPs have already joined the group for this purpose.

“Each member will organise four to five projects in a year to localise the SDG targets among the constituents. Slowly but surely, we’ll be able to create awareness of SDG among members of the public through these projects.

“As such, we would like to invite more MPs to join this cause,” he told Bernama today after an SDG dialogue session at EduCity Hub in Bandar Medini Iskandar, Johor Baru, which was attended by 60 university students of various nationalities.

Saifuddin said the ministry is planning to extend its SDG localisation efforts to the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia, particularly at the Thailand-Malaysia border.

“Almost 50% of the border trade between these two countries occur there. Thus, we’re taking this dynamic into account in our localisation efforts,” he added.

Previously, Saifuddin reportedly said that the ministry is working closely with stakeholders, including local authorities, in an effort to localise SDG in the country. – Bernama, March 5, 2022.
