115 Covid-19 deaths, 27,500 new cases

MALAYSIA continues to record a climb in daily coronavirus deaths, with 115 yesterday, said the Health Ministry.

The figure is the highest in five months.

The last time the country recorded a three-digit daily death figure was on October 7, with 132 fatalities.

The previous highest fatality figure in a day for the year was 78, recorded on the day before yesterday.

Of the 115 fresh fatalities, 36 are dead on arrival. The total number of reported deaths due to the coronavirus now stands at 32,942.

The GitHub database shows that of the 78 deaths, polls-bound Johor claimed the highest with 25, followed by Sabah (24) and Selangor (18).

Kedah recorded eight, Negri Sembilan (8), Perak (7), Pahang (6), Kuala Lumpur (6), Kelantan (4), Penang (3), Perlis (2), Malacca (2), Terengganu (1) and Sarawak (1).

The county recorded 27,500 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, pushing the total number of recorded cases to 3.49 million.

Selangor continues to record the highest with 6,494, followed by Kedah (2,752), Penang (2,422), Sabah (2,236), Kuala Lumpur (2,092), Johor (1,949), Kelantan (1,758), Perak (1,430), Negri Sembilan (1,373), Sarawak (1,357), Pahang (1,331), Terengganu (896), Malacca (664), Labuan (364), Perlis (211) and Putrajaya (171).

A total of 8,182 Covid-19 patients were hospitalised, of which 360 are in intensive care units and 213 in need of respiratory aid.

The national hospital utilisation rate stands at 68.6%, of which 67.1% are Covid-19 cases. – March 3, 2022.
