UKRAINE today called for equal opportunities for Africans seeking to evacuate from the country.
This comes after viral videos showed Africans being denied access to evacuation trains triggered outrage, reported Anadolu Agency.
“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has affected Ukrainians and non-citizens in many devastating ways. Africans seeking evacuation are our friends and need to have equal opportunities to return to their home countries safely,” tweeted Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, reacting to the issue.
“The Ukraine government spares no effort to solve the problem.”
On Monday, the African Union expressed concern over reports that Africans in Ukraine are being prevented from crossing the border to flee the war.
Senegal President Macky Sall and African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat in a joint statement said they are particularly disturbed by the reports.
Nigeria has described the Ukrainian police reaction at the borders against its citizens fleeing the country as extremely disheartening. – Bernama, March 2, 2022.
