THE Education Ministry must explain what plans have been put in place to help students affected by the current floods but are sitting the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, Teo Nie Ching said today.

The former deputy education minister said with the exam for Form Five students slated to start tomorrow, it is still unclear how many students are affected by the floods in Terengganu, Kelantan, Selangor and Sabah.

“It is still unknown how many SPM students and schools are affected by the floods,” Teo said in a statement.

“The ministry must act quickly and come up with a plan so that affected parents and students know what to do next.

“This is also to ensure that the students are able to sit the examination comfortably and are not at the last minute panicking as they don’t know where the exam is going to be held.”

The SPM written examination will be from March 2-29 and involves 407,097 candidates.

The Kulai MP also told the ministry not to dilly-dally in its response as it is evident that the state education department is doing its part to help the students.

A total of 233 SPM students have been transferred to a school in Kuala Terengganu by the district education department.

“I urge the ministry to follow this example and do what is necessary to shift the students to new examination centres,” she said.

A total of 22,833 flood victims from 6,709 families in Kelantan and Terengganu are being housed at 236 relief centres.

All eight districts in Terengganu are affected by floods with the Hulu Terengganu district being the worst hit.

In Kelantan, the floods have claimed three lives. – March 1, 2022.
