THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has completed its investigation into five Mara Corp officers who allegedly broke the rules in seeking backdated claims.
Anti-graft agency chief commissioner Azam Baki said action may be taken against those involved next week.
“The investigation is already done and the Attorney-General Chambers (AGC) has been notified,” he told a press conference today.
“The AG will most likely announce his decision come next week.”
On February 7, MACC officers raided Mara investment holding company Mara Corp over alleged misconduct involving five officers.
Sources told The Malaysian Insight that the raid took place before noon, with the anti-graft agency seizing some documents.
The Malaysian Insight, prior to the raid, reported that five people whose names were mentioned in an @EdisiSiasat tweet concerning alleged abuse of power and misconduct in Mara Corp have lodged a report.
Iskandar Zainudin, Noor Irwan Marmin, Mohd Faizal Mohd Top, Mohd Firdaus Zubir and Rizal Abdul Gani filed a report against executive director Suhaili Abdul Rahman, who accused them of “not following proper procedures when making backdated allowances and claims”.
In the police report sighted by The Malaysian Insight, the officers – excluding Iskandar – denied that they breached procedures as alleged by Suhaili in an official letter to Mara chairman Azizah Mohd Dun on January 30.
In the letter, which was forwarded to The Malaysian Insight, Suhaili asked for an independent investigation into the five officers.
Iskandar, in a separate report, said Suhaili did not refer to the Mara board of directors before sending the letter of investigation to Azizah.
By not referring to the board of directors, the executive director is trying to divert the attention of alleged misconduct to others, he added. – March 1, 2022.
