FORMER prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the latest politician to have his title revoked by the Kelantan palace.

A source told The Malaysian Insight today that the Pakatan Harapan chairman was returning the Darjah Kerabat Al-Yunusi award to Kelantan after receiving a letter  on Tuesday from the palace informing him that his title had been revoked.

Only 25 people hold the award at any one time, an honour that is usually reserved for royalty.

Dr Mahathir’s PH colleagues, former executive councillor Husam Musa and Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Abdullah of Amanah, have also had their titles from the east coast state revoked.

Husam and Wan Rahim returned the awards, which they had received when they were in PAS, to the palace after receiving a letter from the state secretary yesterday.

The Kelantan palace has also withdrawn honourifics it conferred on Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and former Pasir Mas MP Ibrahim Ali.

Dr Mahathir last year returned two awards – one the highest order the state could bestow –  from the sultan of Selangor, following a statement from the royal court that the sultan was enraged and disappointed by a speech of his that had allegedly insulted and incited hatred for the Bugis community.

Dr Mahathir returned by courier in December the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS) Darjah Kelas Pertama he received in 1978 and the Darjah Yang Amat Dihormati Kelas Pertama (DK) in 2003.

In a show of solidarity, his wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali followed suit with two awards she received from the state in 1983 and in 1994. – February 8, 2018.

  • Remember....the real power is with the people. It was the rakyat that defended the Kings......who have surrendered themselves to the British in the Malayan Union.

The people will never forget that.... they fought for their Kings....Who are these Kings without the people.

Those who fight for the people is the real King in the heart of the people....Not even Cash can replace that.

  • History will tell us that the Royals saved their stakes with the Bristish when they invaded Bolehlend.....the people fought for this land when these spoon fed folks were enjoying their part of the bargain. It's like how the Maharajas in India sold their souls..till they lost everything when India went Republic! Msia will head this way one day and all will be lost in the process....someone had made a deal in keeping this alive and hugh payback from the people's taxes are being used to save a few here. Rafizi fought and exposed and got burned when the rest enjoyed the UMNO immunity! Looking at these recent events, I believe it's time we see a change of hands and lets see if all the past mistakes, will be fixed!!! You know what I meant....anyway, my 2 cent of titles and the holders plus the givers....Putra Kraken, you were spot on!
