Malaysia logs year’s record of 43 Covid deaths

MALAYSIA has reported a record number of Covid deaths on a single day for year 2022 with 43 fatalities registered yesterday. 

The previous high for this year was 39, logged on February 17. 

Malaysia has logged more than 30 deaths daily for the past five days, with yesterday’s figure being the highest. 

Since the beginning of the calendar year, the country has recorded 903 fatalities, taking the overall death toll since the onset of the pandemic to 32,390.

Out of the total deaths recorded yesterday, 13 were dead on arrival (DOA), the Health Ministry reported. 

Of the 43 Covid deaths, election-bound Johor and Selangor recorded 10 fatalities each. 

Seven deaths were reported in Kedah, five in Sabah, two each in Kelantan, Pahang and Penang, and one each in Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Sarawak, Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur. 

No Covid deaths was reported in Perak, Perlis, Labuan and Putrajaya. 

The 13 DOA cases were reported in Selangor and Kedah (4 each), Johor, Kelantan, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak (1 each).

The national infectivity rate, measured in Rt, as of yesterday is 1.16.

Thirteen states and territories have reported a higher Rt value than the nation, while the lowest is still above 1.0.

Labuan tops the chart with a Rt value of 1.49, followed by Sarawak (1.35) and Sabah (1.31).

The Rt of other states and territories are Terengganu (1.28), Penang (1.27), Pahang (1.26), Kelantan (1.26), Negri Sembilan (1.26), Selangor (1.25), Perlis (1.25), Kedah (1.23), Kuala Lumpur (1.19), Johor (1.19), Putrajaya (1.16), Malacca (1.11) and Perak (1.12). – February 22, 2022.
