DR Mahathir Mohamad today vowed to continue speaking up against Najib Razak and others he considered inimical to the country’s interests.
In his second letter to Johor voters, the elder statesmansaid he held no personal grudges against Najib but felt the Pekan MP and former prime minister who has been found guilty of corruption should be prevented from returning to power.
“Najib says I am back to my old self when I am calling him out but that is not the case. I feel embarrassed to say his name out loud.
“Overseas newspapers called him a plunderer while the court here called him a national embarrassment. But that has not stopped him from going all over the country in effort to clear himself from abuse of power.”
“Najib must be stopped because if he returns, the country will be led by kleptocrats,” said Dr Mahathir in the statement.
In his first letter, Dr Mahathir said the Johor elections must not be taken lightly as it will have implications for the general election.
The Pejuang president said this is because the “kleptocrats” in Umno intend to use the elections to shore up their positions ahead of the national polls.
Pejuang is taking part in the state elections to stop this group of politicians from gaining traction, he added.
Dr Mahathir, who is the Langkawi MP, noted that he is not the only one criticising Najib.
He said Najib’s own brother, Nazir Razak had exposed his brother’s 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.
“His own brother came to see me and asked me to do something about the scandal. Nazir had also written numerous articles regarding the incident because he is ashamed.”
“I will continue to call out Najib Razak or anyone who tries to smear the country’s image or to deceive the public,” said Dr Mahathir. – February 20, 2022.
