PKR has announced its final seven candidates for the Johor state elections, making it 20 seats in all that the party will be contesting.
Party president Anwar Ibrahim made the announcement in Pasir Gudang this evening.
This means that PKR has decided not to share any seats with Pakatan Harapan-friendly party, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda).
Yesterday, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said PKR and Muda have ended seat negotiations after failing to reach a consensus.
Although Syed Saddiq said his party is committed to ensuring that there will be no overlapping contests among opposition parties, it is unclear if it will field candidates in some of the PKR seats.
Among the seats in dispute are Bukit Gambir, Larkin and Kempas.
As of now, Muda has only announced its secretary-general, Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, for the Puteri Wangsa seat.
Muda is expected to field candidates in five other seats – Bukit Kepong, Bukit Permai, Machap, Parit Raja, and Tenang – which it obtained from Amanah and DAP.
The seven candidates who were announced by Anwar today are Khairuddin Abdul Rahim (Rengit), Zulina Johari (Tenggaroh), Hanif Ghazali Osman (Benut), Mohd Zaiful Bakri (Kukup), Hariati Abu Nasir (Semarang), Rosman Tahir (Tanjung Surat) and Omar Mokhtar (Johor Lama). – February 19, 2022.
