THE Ministry of Communications and Multimedia said it will institute an awareness campaign to encourage the 70% voter turnout target set by the Election Commission (EC) for the Johor elections on March 12.

Deputy minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin said the ministry would use social media to make people aware of the importance of voting.

“The ministry will hold campaigns on the internet, Whatsapp and so on. In addition, we will encourage them to cast their votes through the Info on Wheels programme.

“Voting is their right and it is for their future as well,” he told reporters after attending a meet-the-people session at Felda Bukit Besar hall, Kota Tinggi, today.

Yesterday the EC issued the SOP for the Johor elections, allowing ceramah, talks, physical campaigning and door-to-door visits throughout the 14-day campaign period.

Polling day has been set for March 12, with nominations on February 26 and early voting on March 8. – Bernama, February 19, 2022.
