Police arrest lorry driver over 6-vehicle crash

A LORRY driver has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, following a six-vehicle collision that resulted in one death in Pasir Gudang yesterday.

Seri Alam district police chief Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the accident at 6.30pm is believed to have occurred when a lorry, driven by the 37-year-old man, from Pasir Gudang heading towards Johor Baru skidded and entered the opposite lane, resulting in a collision with five other vehicles.

He said a 21-year-old man injured in the collision died while receiving treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital while a 46-year-old man is still warded at the hospital.

“The lorry driver only suffered minor injuries. The other three drivers escaped unhurt,” he said in a statement today.

Sohaimi said the man was detained under section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 to assist in the investigation. – Bernama, February 13, 2022.
