MUAR MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman wants Johor folk overseas to register as postal voters if they couldn’t return home for polling in the upcoming state election.
In a short video clip, the Muda president said there were only five days left before the Election Commission (EC) closes the postal voter registration before explaining ways to register as one.
“It will only take you five minutes, which will change Johor for five years. Register as a postal voter now. There are only five days left. Johoreans act now.”
“More than 100,000 Johoreans lived in Singapore. To fly home is expensive, to buy a bus ticket, all sold out but you can vote by registering as a postal voter.”
“It is as simple as one, two, three. Register now because change is in your hands,” said Syed Saddiq in the clip which he posted on Facebook today.
The Election Commission (EC) has set polling day for the upcoming Johor polls on March 12.
EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh said candidate nomination is slated for February 26, while early voting will be held on March 8.
The state elections are called after the state government requested for the state assembly to be dissolved, with the consent of Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
Johor has 56 seats in its assembly, but the Kempas seat remains vacant following the death of its assemblyman, Osman Sapian, last year.
Osman’s death leaves the Barisan Nasional-Perikatan Nasional-led government with a slim one-seat majority over Pakatan Harapan.
Before its dissolution, the assembly was made up of Barisan Nasional (16 seats), Perikatan Nasional (12) and Pakatan Harapan (27). – February 13, 2022.
