CIVIL society groups have launched Ops Undi Johor to help Johor voters residing in Singapore with casting their ballots in the March 12 elections.

The groups, led by Undi18, said they were doing this because the Election Commission (EC) had failed to make it easier for voters living in other states or abroad to vote.

Undi18 co-founder Qyira Yusri said they are offering the EC help to transport postal ballots from Singapore back to Malaysia.

They are starting a fund to help voters needing transport to return to Johor for polling day.

“An estimated 200,000 Johor residents residing in Singapore are eligible to vote in the upcoming state poll. Undi Johor is hereby offering to support the EC in transporting postal vote ballots from Singapore back to Malaysia

“The Pulang Mengundi fund, meanwhile, will serve to subsidise the transport costs of students and youths who are returning to Johor to vote,” she said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Qyira said the groups are disappointed that the EC did not meet any of their demands for the Johor election.

Their demands include enabling voters residing outside the state to return in time to vote, establish overseas polling stations, enable early voting on campus for students and enable postal voting for Johor voters in Sabah and Sarawak.

Qyira today said more details will be revealed for Johor voters living in East Malaysia.

Currently, a voter residing outside the state will have to apply for a postal ballot.

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Maria Chin Abdullah also urged the EC to make voting easier for Johor voters living outside the state

The filing of candidate nominations has been set for February 26, and early voting on March 8, ahead of polling on March 12. – February 11, 2022.
