THE government has agreed to scrap the use of temperature scanners and registering in log books for people entering any premises starting Friday, Senior Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said.

“Taking the advice from the Health Ministry, we decided that the temperature check and record book will be scrapped from February 11.

“Shop owners are not required to prepare either for customers, but customers are required to use their MySejahtera application upon entering the premises,” the minister, who chairs the Covid-19 Quartet Ministers Meeting, said in a press conference today.

Temperature checks and noting personal details in a log book – the latter in lieu of using the MySejahtera app – became an integral part of the SOP at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, their usefulness has repeatedly been questioned because many new cases are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, more so with widespread vaccination.

On January 22, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the MOH would recommend to the government that the procedures be deleted from mandatory SOP and people only need use their MySejahtera app to enter a building. – February 8, 2022.
