DAP-MUDA seat allocation negotiations for the upcoming Johor polls are underway, said Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong.
“After the discussions, I will refer to the DAP leadership before announcing any statement,” he said, when asked on negotiations with the youth-based party, which has reportedly demanded to contest in 10 seats.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar Ibrahim yesterday said Muda – which is not part of, but is collaborating with the coalition for the polls – has been told to submit its list of candidates.
But seat talks between coalition components and Muda are ongoing, he added.
Muda, led by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, confirmed that it will contest the Johor polls.
The former youth and sports minister said negotiations are “going well”, but added that nothing has been finalised. He has not revealed the number of seats that Muda wants.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he hopes that there will be no clashes of seats between Muda and PH.
“For now, we are negotiating with Muda. I hope that there will be no clashes between us.”
PH will contest in all 56 seats in Johor. Any seat agreement with Muda will mean that the three components will have to surrender some seats to accommodate the new party. – February 7, 2022.
