ONE of five individuals accused of misconduct and abuse of power in Mara Corp has lodged a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) report against the corporation’s executive director Suhaili Abdul Rahman over alleged abuse of a corporate credit card.

The report followed a police report lodged by the five against Suhaili for initiating investigations against them.

“The MACC report was made yesterday (Sunday) with regard to the misuse of a credit card owned by Mara,” the source said without elaborating.

Meanwhile, another source has provided The Malaysian Insight with a screenshot of a receipt, with Suhaili allegedly paying more than RM5,000 at a dinner during Ramadan last year.

The dinner, held at a restaurant in Labuan, was said to be paid by Suhaili, using Mara Corp’s credit card.

The receipt had a remark of Bersatu, where Suhaili is a division chief. He is also Bersatu’s supreme council member and Labuan Bersatu chief.

The five – Noor Irwan Marmin, Iskandar Zainudin, Rizal Abdul Gani, Mohd Faizal Mohd Top and Mohd Firdaus Zubir – were named by an @EdisiSiasat tweet on alleged misconduct and abuse of power in Majlis Amanah Rakyat’s (Mara) investment holding company Mara Corp.

The tweet had also shared documents in which Suhaili had accused them of “not following proper procedures when making backdated claims and allowances”.

They lodged a police report at the Dang Wangi police station against the Twitter account and Suhaili on Sunday.

In the police report sighted by The Malaysian Insight, four of them – Noor Irwan, Rizal, Faizal and Firdaus – denied they had breached the procedures as alleged by Suhaili in an official letter to Mara chairman Azizah Mohd Dun on January 30.

Iskandar, in a separate police report, said Suhaili did not refer to the Mara board of directors before sending the letter of investigation to Azizah.

MACC previously said it would open an investigation into Mara Corp following allegations of power abuse and mismanagement.

In a statement, MACC said it had received a report and will start investigations today by recording statements from several Mara Corp witnesses.

On Friday, Azizah said it had begun an investigation into Mara Corp.

She said Mara viewed seriously the unauthorised public dissemination of internal administrative documents, which she said had cast a negative light on Mara and its subsidiaries.

Azizah also denied the allegations, after internal documents of Mara Corp were leaked online, questioning the integrity of some of its officers. – February 7, 2022.
