JOHOR DAP has unveiled four candidates for the upcoming Johor polls so far, with incumbent Ee Chin Li set to defend his Tangkak seat.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he hopes Pakatan Harapan can repeat its success in the last general election (GE), when the coalition won all three seats under the Ledang parliamentary constituency.

The three seats under Ledang are Gambir, Serom and Tangkak.

PKR’s Faizul Amri Adnan sat on the Serom seat, while Bersatu’s Muhyiddin Yassin sat on the Gambir seat. But the latter supposedly will not defend his seat in the upcoming polls.

“It will not be easy this time, but we hope we can repeat our previous success,” said Lim, in announcing Ee’s nomination.

“I appreciate the attendance of party members from Amanah and PKR today. It shows a strong message that we will defend Johor together as we did last time.”

Ee, 40, claimed the Tangkak seat in the 2018 GE, defeating MCA’s Goh Tee Tee with a 13,512-majority.

DAP earlier announced its candidates for Paloh (Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali), Penggaram (Gan Peck Cheng) and Mengkibol (Chew Chong Sin).

The Election Commission is expected to set a polling date on Wednesday.

Caretaker Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad said he wants a clear mandate to govern the state – which was helmed by Barisan Nasional by one seat in partnership with Perikatan Nasional.

Prior to Hasni, the state was led by the late Osman Sapian, who was later replaced by Sahruddin Jamal.
