New Covid-19 cases surge to 10,089

MALAYSIA logged 10,089 fresh Covid-19 infections today, said Health Director-Health General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the first time in four months that the nation reported five-digit daily infections.

The last time the country recorded more than 10,000 cases was on October 2, when it clocked in 10,915. It has been reporting more than 5,000 cases for six consecutive days.

The fresh infections today push the total number of reported infections to 2.91 million.

Dr Noor Hisham said the national infectivity rate has increased from 1.15 to 1.20, signalling that the virus is rapidly spreading.

Perlis has the highest infection rate at 1.49

A total of 22.9 (97.9%) million adults have completed their vaccination, while 23.2 million (99.2%) have received at least one vaccine dose.

Almost 2.8 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 have completed their vaccination, while almost 2.9 million have received at least one vaccine dose.

The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme administered 73,328 vaccine doses yesterday, bringing the total number of doses dispensed under the drive to 63,914,165. – February 6, 2022.
