PAKATAN Harapan remains strong and united though PKR will use its own logo in the upcoming Johor polls, said the Johor PKR chairman.

Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said components Amanah, DAP and PKR still share an understanding, and that the differences in opinion are what makes the coalition stronger.

“Sometimes, we are tested and we become stronger as a result. Our cooperation and understanding are still strong, despite PKR using a different symbol in the state elections,” he told a DAP event this afternoon.

“This is something that we should cherish. Of course, our enemies will use this issue to tell the people of Johor that we are not united.

“We know this is not true. As a coalition, we are backing each other up and at the end of the day, what matters most is cooperation.”

The event was held to nominate DAP’s Tangkak candidate. Incumbent Ee Chin Li will defend his seat, which he won in the last general election (GE).

Syed Ibrahim said Umno called for the polls as it is trying to hold on to power.

“The state elections have nothing to do with stability. Umno wants to cling on to power by using stability as a reason.

“The state elections should not be held in the first place (as) Covid-19 cases are on the rise, the economy is still poor and the GE is around the corner.

“Why must they have the polls now? The answer is, power.”

Syed Ibrahim said Johor must show Umno that the latter has made a big mistake by calling for the polls.

“Let us all tell Umno that it has made a grave mistake by calling for the polls. We must vote it out of power.”

The Election Commission is expected to set a polling date on Wednesday.

Caretaker Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad said he wants a clear mandate to govern the state – which was helmed by Barisan Nasional by one seat in partnership with Perikatan Nasional.

Prior to Hasni, the state was led by the late Osman Sapian, who was later replaced by Sahruddin Jamal.
