A TOTAL of 9,070 of the 9,117 new cases (99.5) recorded today are in the less severe categories of 1 and 2, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

He added that only 47 (0.5%) of the new cases are in the more serious categories of 3, 4 and 5.

Noor Hisham said this proves the efficacy of the vaccine, and urged everyone to get inoculated and boosted to stay protected.

“For those who have not received the vaccine and at the same time had never contracted Covid – you are now in the group at most risk of contracting the virus.

“The ministry is advising everyone to register and get the Covid-19 vaccine. Those who have registered, attend the given appointment in order to protect yourself and your loved ones,” he said in a statement today.

According to the ministry’s CovidNow portal, more than 12.2 million adults, or 52.3%, of the group in the country have received a Covid-19 booster dose as of yesterday.

It also shows that 22.9 million, or 97.9%, of the adult population have completed their Covid-19 vaccine dose, while 99.1% or 23.2 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

For adolescents ages 12 to 17 years, more than 2.79 of them have completed vaccination, while more than 2.86 million, 91.2% have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Malaysia has now reported more than 5,000 cases daily for the past four days, and the number of new infections recorded today is the highest this calendar year.

Noor Hisham said that 8,983 of the new cases involve local transmission, where 8,715 of them are Malaysians. – February 5, 2022.
