THE Film Directors’ Association of Malaysia has urged the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry and police to immediately act against digital piracy.
President Ahmad Ibrahim in a statement today said the association views the matter seriously, with the latest case involving the film Hantu Kuat Ketawa directed by Asmawi Ani, better known as Mawi.
“The association has contacted Mawi, who is a member, to inform him that his film has been pirated. We are ready to assist him to find the best solution to stop piracy.
“The latest incident has given the impression that the local film industry is still not protected from being a victim of piracy.
“The association condemns the actions of these irresponsible parties who deliberately commit piracy involving local films.”
Ahmad described the perpetrators as “pirates” who should be handed appropriate punishment to serve as a lesson to others to not commit such cybercrimes. – Bernama, February 5, 2022.
