MOHAMAD Sabu told Johor voters to not be confused and just choose either the Pakatan Harapan (PH) symbol or PKR symbol in the upcoming polls, as both are part of the same team.

The Amanah president said: “PH is both the PH and PKR symbols, so do not be confused. We have contested under our respective logos in 2008 and 2013.”

“Vote for the PH and PKR symbols,” he said at the announcement ceremony of the coalition’s candidates in Kluang, Johor, today.

Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, said PH may work with other opposition parties in the polls in an effort to capture the state.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who was present at the event, said PH will focus on five key issues in the state elections.

The key issues are corruption; inflation and higher costs of goods; labour shortages affecting the economy; Johor-Singapore travel for Malaysians working in the republic; and, increasing taxes on aboard-earned income.

He urged voters to send a signal with their ballots to the federal government.

“Do not look at the Johor polls as just another election; this is the time for Johor folk to do something good for the people.

“Do not let them (the government) win. If they win, the people will have a hard time.”

Currently, PH is in talks with youth-based party Muda, led by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

The Election Commission will set the polling date on Wednesday. Fifty-six seats will be up for grabs.

The Barisan Nasional-led state government, in a bid to strengthen its rule, requested for the polls to the Johor ruler.

It led by a one-seat majority before the dissolution of the state assembly.

PKR will be using its own logo in the state elections, while Amanah and DAP will continue to use the PH logo.

So far, PH has announced that Amanah will be fielding Muhammad Taqiuddin Cheman in Mahkota. Taqiuddin was the previous Pulai Sebatang assemblyman.

Both the Mengkibol and Paloh incumbents, DAP’s Chew Chong Sin and Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali, respectively, will be defending their seats. – February 5, 2022.
