UMNO has its own strategy to introduce its candidates in the upcoming Johor polls.
Its information chief, Shahril Suffian Hamdan, said the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership will decide on who and when the candidates will be announced.
“BN and Umno are not bound by the approaches and methods of other parties. We make decisions based on what is considered best for the party and people.”
The Umno Youth vice-chief said he is confident that party leaders president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Mohamad Hasan and Johor branch liaison committee chairman Hasni Mohammad have their own strategies on the selection of candidates.
His comment comes after Pakatan Harapan (PH) started introducing its candidates for the polls from yesterday, despite the polling date yet to be decided and announced.
PH had announced that incumbent Paloh assemblyman, DAP’s Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali, will be defending his seat in the state elections.
The coalition is scheduled to introduce its candidates for the Mahkota and Mengkibol seats today.
On Zahid’s call for the party election machinery to focus on social media campaigns instead of conventional methods, Shahril said the method was used during the Malacca elections.
“We already have the experience in Malacca, where our campaigns were done via digital channels.” – Bernama, February 5, 2022.
