5,736 fresh Covid cases mark new high for the year

MALAYSIA has breached its previous high of daily Covid-19 cases for the year with 5,736 fresh infections as of noon today, Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

Yesterday, the country logged 5,566, the previous high for the year.

The country has now reported more than 5,000 daily cases for two days in a row.

The breakdown of cases by state will be updated on the ministry’s CovidNow portal after midnight.

Dr Noor Hisham said the infection rate (R-naught) nationwide stands at 1.15.

Meanwhile, a total 22,925,383 individuals or 97.9% of the adult population in the country have completed their Covid-19 vaccination, while 99.1% or 23,202,227 individuals have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

For adolescents aged between 12 and 17, a total of 2,788,724 individuals or 88.6% of the group have completed the vaccination, while 2,867,902 individuals or 91.1% have received at least one dose of the vaccine. – February 2, 2022.
