Malaysia posts 5,566 fresh Covid cases, a new high for 2022

After two days of new Covid cases coming in below the 5,000 mark, Malaysia today logs its highest daily tally this year with 5,566 fresh infections. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, February 1, 2022.

MALAYSIA has reported a new high in daily Covid-19 cases for this year with 5,566 fresh infections as at noon today.

The previous high for this year was 5,522, reported on January 28.

For the past two days, the number of daily infections had fallen below the 5,000 mark.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new cases bring the cumulative tally since the onset of the pandemic to 2.87 million.

The case breakdown by state will be updated on the CovidNow portal after midnight.

As of yesterday, a total of 22,925,149 individuals or 97.9% of the adult population in the country had completed their vaccination, while 99.1% or 23,202,052 individuals had received at least one dose of the vaccine.

For adolescents aged between 12 and 17, a total of 2,788,610 individuals or 88.6% of the group had completed the vaccination, while 2,867,859 individuals or 91.1% had received at least one dose of the vaccine. – February 1, 2022.
