PKR and other Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties will use different logos in the upcoming Johor polls but this will not affect their close relationship, Anwar Ibrahim said.
The PH chairman said there was nothing unusual about the arrangement for the Johor polls as pact members had used different logos in past elections.
He cited the Sabah elections where DAP had elected to use the Warisan logo while PKR had gone with its own logo.
“In 2013 we used our respective (party) logos and Pakatan Rakyat was strong at the time.
“Then in the (recent) Sabah election, PKR used the Keadilan logo, DAP used the Warisan logo, but it did not affect the relationship between us.
“In Malacca we used the PH logo and in Sarawak (used the PKR logo). So, the relationship among the PH leadership is still strong,” the opposition leader told reporters in Seremban.
On Wednesday, following a PH council meeting, Anwar had announced PKR’s decision to use its own logo in the Johor polls.
“The decision on the logo was consensual. PKR will use our own logo while the others will use the PH logo,” said Anwar.
This is the second time PKR will use its own logo in a state election. Last month, it lost all 28 seats it contested in Sarawak.
Anwar claimed some are using the logo issue to stir dissension among PH component parties.
The opposition leader said the decision to contest under their own logo was taken after taking voter sentiment into consideration.
“Some people are trying to use this logo issue because they want to break us. No (not going to happen).
“We have the same policy, same manifesto. Then if you ask why a different logo, it had happen before in the 2013 election.
“Then in 2018 we all used the PKR logo. In Sabah some used Warisan, but PKR used its own. We use it because of voter sentiment.
“That is our view and when we discussed it, it was agreed. So, no problem,” the 74-year-old said.
Anwar said there was no reason to drag the issue any further. – January 29, 2022.
